Since his introduction to the art world eighteen years ago, Jason Fiss has not only developed a unique format of artistic expression, but has found a stylish, contemporary showcase to house his creations. In the ever-changing world of big-city nightlife and entertainment, his talent is displayed in several venues. Growing up in the Bronx, Jason's first glimpse of art was splashed across concrete canvases everywhere. Though raw in form, graffiti planted a seed of creative inspiration, one that he nurtured through the years with self-teaching. Today, these artistic instincts have branched out in several directions and are displayed in the modern day "museums" of each industry. They have developed into the distinct mediums of airbrushing and body art, which he displays in the modern "museums" of nightlife and entertainment. It was in 1992 that Jason received the first of his hands-on training with tattoo artist SEEN. During his apprenticeship, he learned how art should appear artistically on the body. With a firm foundation built, Jason ventured out on his own a year later and has since built a successful business. After being introduced to airbrushing body art at Key West's Fantasy Fest, Jason moved to Florida in 1994. He spent the next two years developing his newfound form of expression. Realizing there was a much more lucrative market in a larger city, he moved again in 1996. The last seven years have proven to be successful ones for the artist who remains the only one of his kind in Miami. His artwork in airbrushing and body art became a full time venture. His first job was at the legendary nightclub Liquid, where his body art was done on both dancers and patrons alike. He has since worked with virtually every club on South Beach, and continues to do so on in intermittent basis. It wasn't long before many entertainers in Miami’s late night scene noticed the newcomer. To his credit, Jason has worked with the well-known, local talents of Power Infiniti, Kitty Meow, Elaine Lancaster, Adrenna Lynn and Paloma DiLaurenti, creating costumes and bodysuits for divas in demand. In 1999, Jason began working with visual performance artists Rubio and Kidd Madonny, adding the colorful completion to their costumes, performance pieces, and RKM themselves on occasion. His list of celebrity clients is topped off with Dennis Rodman, whose outrageous style is infamous. During Superbowl weekend of 1999, Jason was given creative control and "painted" Dennis up for an all-important party at Liquid. His work has also been part of circuit parties and clubs both in and outside Miami, involving everything from entertainers to staff to the decor itself. His credits include Jeffrey Sanker's MGM party (1999), White Party (1997 to present), Winter Party (2000), Sound Factory (NYC), and the grand opening of Exit (NYC) in the summer of 1999. During that same summer, Jason’s work gained international recognition in Ibiza. He worked with Ralph Uhler on a book entitled "2000 Faces of Ibiza," whose cover is graced by one of Jason’s creations. It was here that he met DJ Taucher of Germany, who used Jason’s artwork on the cover of his newest album and then again for his newest album "Pictures of the Gallery". His cover credits also include the Memorial Weekend issue of Outlook magazine and then again for their April 5th Paradise issue, (a South Florida weekly publication), also for the June 2000 issue of Next magazine (NYC), MixMag and DJ Magazine covers for Ibiza Spain August and July Issues 2000 The more mainstream business world is no stranger to Jason’s work either. He has a long list of corporate clients that includes Bacardi, Stoli, Kamel, Moet, Smirnoff Ice, Jagermeister, and the list continues to grow. At present, Jason continues to juggle his vast clientele while embarking on projects outside Miami. His contemporary work continues to grow in popularity, paving the way for his artistic "palette" to decorate yet undiscovered domains. Written by: Sandie Olesiewicz |
